Chapter 124 Want to eat peaches?
Chapter 124 Want to eat peaches?
"Shall we go to the grove to eat peaches later?" Lin Shuyao whispered an invitation in Cheng Zheng's ear as she leaned on his back.
The grove was their secret hideout, where they would sneak out every night.
Cheng Zheng hummed in tacit agreement, his large hand supporting her knees tightening slightly as he gave her a light pinch. "Ah," Lin Shuyao whimpered sweetly, poking his shoulder with her chin, making Cheng Zheng chuckle softly. He pinched her again, and Lin Shuyao opened her lips to nibble at his earlobe, gently rubbing it with her teeth. Cheng Zheng's smile widened uncontrollably, and a rare touch of boyish innocence appeared in his eyes...
The young couple were enjoying their sweet time together, completely unaware that a pair of eyes were staring intently at them through the window of the gatehouse at the factory entrance.
Su Wan originally came to the gatehouse to call Cheng Zheng, but when she called Cheng's house, the Cheng family said he wasn't there. She was at her wits' end, not knowing how to find him, when she looked up and saw Cheng Zheng walking towards the factory gate.
He was even carrying Shen Qing on his back!
Shen Qing said something to him, and he actually smiled, revealing a set of clean, white teeth. His eyes were smiling, and he looked extremely handsome when he smiled, like the moon in the sky or the snow on the mountaintop. Su Wan was stunned for a moment, her eyes becoming blank.
She had never seen such an expression on Cheng Zheng's face before.
I could never imagine what Cheng Zheng would be like in a relationship, because he was always cold to women. Even with her, he would only have normal conversations and never showed a smile. He always had a businesslike attitude.
But I can see it tonight.
That smile wasn't for her.
Su Wan felt as if her heart had been soaked in a vat of vinegar.
It was so sour that her expression became somewhat distorted.
She couldn't bear to watch any longer and rushed out of the gatehouse, shouting to Cheng Zheng, "Brother Zheng! You're finally back!"
Her tone and expression were just like a wife who had been waiting for her husband at home all day.
Lin Shuyao secretly pinched Chen Zhen's arm, then slid off his back and stood aside.
Cheng Zheng's smile vanished instantly. He looked at Su Wan and said coldly, "Comrade Su, you can call me by my name outside of work hours."
With just one sentence, he immediately distanced himself from Su Wan.
Su Wan bit her lip awkwardly and reluctantly changed her address: "Comrade Cheng Zheng".
Cheng Zheng pursed his lips and looked at her, his expression as cold and stern as ever, but he didn't ask anything. Su Wan waited for two seconds before explaining her purpose: "Comrade Cheng Zheng, the doctor said that Hu Zi's head injury requires a month of rest at home. The department has been busy lately, and I haven't had time to take care of him, so my mother came from our hometown to help. I just picked her up from the train station tonight, but when I brought her to the staff dormitory, the dormitory manager absolutely refused to let her stay there, saying it didn't comply with the regulations."
Su Wan stopped there, looking up at Cheng Zheng's expression expectantly.
In the past, whenever she mentioned this, Cheng Zheng would arrange everything, so she quietly waited for Cheng Zheng to speak.
Unexpectedly, Cheng Zheng said, "Comrade Su, this matter is indeed against the regulations. You are living in a single staff dormitory, and no one other than the staff member is allowed to stay overnight. This is clearly stated in the rules and regulations posted on the wall on the ground floor of the dormitory."
Su Wan asked, puzzled, "But Hu Zi could live with me before, right? Now it's just one more person, my mom. And the fact that she shares a bed with me won't bother the other employees."
Cheng Zheng frowned slightly: "Letting Hu Zi move in is already breaking the rules. Several factory leaders even held a special meeting about this matter. They only agreed to let you bring your child to live here because of your husband."
The implication was that an exception had already been made once, and it was impossible to make things convenient for her again and again.
Su Wan persisted, "But you're the factory representative. If you agree, no one will dare say anything... It's all Tiger's father's fault for leaving so early. If it weren't for that, my son and I wouldn't be in this situation..."
Su Wan's eyes gradually reddened, and her voice trembled.
Cheng Zheng felt that she was being unreasonable.
His face immediately darkened, his thin lips pressed into a thin line, and his eyes stared at her coldly.
Su Wan felt a chill run down her spine under his icy gaze and dared not look him in the eye again. Her gaze drifted to the side involuntarily, and she saw Lin Shuyao standing there as if nothing had happened. She also saw Cheng Zheng carrying her bag and a net bag in his other hand, containing a lunchbox and a few peaches. Su Wan felt increasingly uneasy.
In the past, Cheng Zheng would handle such matters for her without hesitation. But now that Shen Qing is present, he dismissed her with a simple "it does not comply with the regulations." It must be because Shen Qing whispered in his ear!
It's all Shen Qing's fault!
What an eyesore!
Su Wan looked at Lin Shuyao with a hint of resentment and hatred in her eyes.
Lin Shuyao stood silently, figuring it was Cheng Zheng's business whether or not to help, and she didn't intend to influence his decision. Although she despised Su Wan's behavior of taking advantage of Cheng Zheng, she didn't expect to be met with such disdain.
Adding to Cheng Zheng's attitude, it was clear that he didn't want to make an exception for Su Wan, yet Su Wan persisted and resorted to moral blackmail.
Lin Shuyao couldn't hold back any longer. Her face darkened, she put her hands on her hips, and launched a direct attack on Su Wan:
"Comrade Su, you're mistaken about that!"
"Precisely because Comrade Cheng Zheng is the factory representative, he should set an example and take the lead in abiding by the factory's rules and regulations. The single-person employee dormitory has always been for single employees. If you set this precedent today and bring your mother and children to live in the dormitory, will everyone be able to bring their families to live in the dormitory tomorrow? If the dormitory becomes like a tenement, how can it be managed? Who will guarantee safety?"
Su Wan was stunned for a moment, then wiped away her tears, sobbing, "I knew you were just being polite, saying you'd come to me when I was in trouble, but when I actually faced difficulties, nobody helped me..."
Lin Shuyao retorted, "This isn't asking for help, this is making things difficult for someone!"
Su Wan was speechless after being silenced by Lin Shuyao's words. She took a deep breath, her voice filled with barely suppressed resentment: "Fine, fine, I was being unreasonable. But my mother came all the way from Yuncheng, and she's unfamiliar with the area. Where are you going to let her stay?"
Is there even a need to ask this question?
Lin Shuyao chuckled lightly: "Stay in a guesthouse. Or we can rent a place outside and stay for a month."
"Hmph," Su Wan sneered, her resentment undisguised. "You make it sound so easy. You're only responsible for yourself, but I have to raise a child! How much does it cost to stay in a guesthouse for a month? You'll pay for it!"
After speaking, Su Wan glanced expectantly at Cheng Zheng.
He secretly looked forward to it.
Since he can't arrange a dormitory for her, he should at least pay for her to stay in a guesthouse, right?
