Chapter 417 Hal: Batman Needs Our Saving!
Antimatter Universe, Kovad.
This is the center of the antimatter universe and the headquarters of Sinestro's Legion.
That's right, headquarters. Senesto wouldn't set up the Legion Headquarters, a place that would immediately be associated with words like war, death, and destruction, on his home planet, Korga. Korvad was a place that looked pretty good.
The weapon master of the Kovalds helped Senestor forge the Yellow Lantern Ring, and they enjoyed a brief honeymoon period, perhaps three days, perhaps a week.
However, Senestor soon turned on him. After recruiting enough soldiers, he enslaved the Kovads to make more Yellow Light Rings for him. This forced all the Kovads to work in factories for a short period of time, screwing screws every day and living a 997 life without pay.
The Green Lantern Corps has a planetary Green Lantern, Mogo, who can use his planet's core to help the Green Lantern Corps forge their rings. The Yellow Lantern Corps' counterpart, the Yellow Lantern city of Lanx, doesn't have this ability. All of the Yellow Lantern Corps' rings were painstakingly handcrafted by the unfortunate Kovad aliens.
According to Seneca, this was a "necessary sacrifice." I didn't harm you; I just made you work hard for the rise of the Seneca Legion. How can that be considered doing something bad?
This is such a great blessing! You have the honor of working for the rise of the Seneca Legion!
Therefore, even though the Senestor Legion had already set out for Oa, the miserable enslavement of the Kovard people had not stopped.
The Yellow Lantern Legion still left a large number of its members on the planet as overseers, forcing them to continuously forge new Yellow Lantern rings.
Even though the number of these overseers is only a drop in the ocean compared to the vast population of Kovard, the powerful force brought by the Yellow Lantern Ring means that even a larger population would simply be more lambs to the slaughter.
However, at this very moment...
Rumble rumble rumble rumble...
The sky was trembling.
Countless Kovadians raised their heads and looked up at the sky. Amidst the shouts and curses of the overseers, they threw down their tools, opened their mouths, and stared at the enormous object that cast its shadow on Kovad.
The overseers started cursing, but no one from the Kovads paid them any attention.
They stormed out of the factory and flooded the streets. Some of the more audacious Kovard even attacked members of the Yellow Lantern Legion directly, which resulted in a bloody crackdown, but did nothing to stop the ecstatic crowd.
Ironically, as inhabitants of the antimatter universe, the Kovads once attempted to invade the material universe and should have been the Green Lantern Corps' most steadfast enemy. This is why the weapon masters among the Kovads were so eager to help Sinestro forge the Yellow Lantern Ring at the beginning.
Now, they've been betrayed by their own allies and are now asking the Green Lantern Corps to save their lives.
"We have successfully returned to the antimatter universe."
Outside the atmosphere of the massive Green Lantern planet Mogo, countless Green Lanterns raised their rings and joined forces to create a Green Lantern Barrier large enough to cover the entire planet.
At that moment, Green Lantern Hal heard Green Lantern Kirowog's voice in his ear: "Zod's plan has truly succeeded! Hooray!"
Green Lantern Kirowog is the chief instructor of the Green Lantern Corps. He is an alien with a hippopotamus-like head and a veteran member of the Green Lantern Corps.
"I am a soldier, I never lie." General Zod flew to Hal's side and stood shoulder to shoulder with him.
"The history of Kryptonians using the Phantom Zone is almost as long as the history of the Green Lantern Corps' expansion in the universe. I've said it before, only I can take you out of that place."
General Zod held a strange-looking instrument with huge damage and many scorch marks on its outer shell, as if it had been severely damaged in an explosion. However, General Zod managed to repair the machine.
"You are indeed a warrior, Zod, but you are more of a general." However, Hal did not lower his guard against General Zod; he did not even hide his hostility.
He warned the other man, "You'd better stay away from me, or I'll suspect you're plotting to kill me. Batman once told me just how dangerous you are, how you once wanted to..."
"I once wanted to transform Earth into Krypton, for my beloved homeland," General Zod said. "You cannot call a patriot a villain."
"If you want to accuse me of harming the Earth, I have nothing to say. But if you want to accuse me of being a villain, that's just your perspective as an Earthling."
"Revitalizing our own planet should not come at the expense of other planets."
"Unless I have no other choice."
Hal Jordan rolled his eyes. He realized there was nothing to say to this guy, so he simply shut up.
"roll."
He said it directly.
Zod said nothing more, shook his head, and flew away from Hal.
Hal Jordan frowned, unconsciously increasing the power of the green light energy beams emitted by his green light ring, making the green light barrier he was responsible for incredibly thick.
But he always seemed a little uneasy.
A huge sense of foreboding had been nagging at Hal Jordan, but he couldn't understand where this unsettling feeling came from.
Perhaps we should ask Batman...
Oh, Batman isn't here. That's alright then.
Hal realized he needed to think about what was going on.
He felt a bit down.
Why do humans need to use their brains?
So annoying.
General Zod might be up to no good for Green Lantern. Hal recalled Batman's advice to always anticipate the worst.
So now the question is, how will General Zod deal with the Green Lantern Corps?
It's worth noting that the Guardians of the Universe sent approximately 2000 people to Kovald in order to defeat the Sinestro Legion. Many years ago, when the Green Lantern Legion attacked Apokolips, they sent about 3000 people. This is the largest operation the Green Lantern Legion has ever carried out since then.
Even Hal didn't think General Zod could fight so many Green Lanterns on his own. Although Batman had sometimes told him strange things like "the Green Lanterns can't have more than 5 companions, or they'll all fail," he was probably just joking. If General Zod could challenge nearly 2000 people on his own, then he wouldn't be Zod, but Darkseid.
This is why Hal has allowed Zod to wander around there so far.
"Tomaré".
After watching Zod fly away unsteadily, Hal called out the name of another colleague through his Green Lantern ring:
"Krypton was once a sector under your jurisdiction. Based on your understanding, what do you think General Zod would have to do to defeat our 2000 men?"
Tomare is a bird-headed alien with a black beak and white feathered skin.
"Any ideas are meaningless," Tomare said. "And there's little chance of defeating 2000 men..."
The Green Lantern Corps began its invasion of Kovad. The Yellow Lanterns left behind on Kovad by the Yellow Lantern Corps were no match for the Green Lanterns.
Compared to the well-trained Green Lantern Corps, they looked like mere jailers or slave owners.
Hal stopped thinking about General Zod. He grabbed a yellow-light member, listened to his confession, and then Hal's heart skipped a beat.
He quickly realized what Sinestro was up to. They were master and apprentice, and Sinestro had previously told him a lot of secrets about the Green Lantern Corps in an attempt to win him over.
He recalled the information he had given Sinestro about Earth, and then, putting himself in Sinestro's shoes, considered what he would do with that information. Suddenly, he became anxious.
"If I were Sinestro, after trapping the Green Lantern Corps, I would find a way to distract Batman, then storm the OA alone and take over Green Lantern Central..."
As Hal pondered this, he began to deduce Sinestro's actions. His mind was racing; considering the people Hal knew and without Batman's backup, his analytical abilities were anything but weak.
"I am Sinestro. If I find I can't take my spoils with me, I'll most likely just swallow them whole, like becoming a host for Parallax..."
This was definitely the worst-case scenario, Hal reassured himself. At least Sinestro had some sense and wouldn't do something like letting himself be possessed by Parallax without being sure of the outcome.
Then his thoughts naturally drifted to his own situation.
"If I were Sinestro, and I wanted to stop the Green Lantern Corps from finding a way back into the material world to interfere with his plans, I should..."
Hal thought about it more and more and felt that something was wrong, because no matter how he thought about it, Sinestro would not be completely unprepared for this situation.
If he were Sinestro, he would definitely find a way to send everyone to hell, for example...
boom!
Hal turned his head abruptly, his face grim.
A beam of green light, as thick as a pillar, swept past him, leaving a massive green energy explosion not far from his body.
A large number of Green Lanterns were caught off guard and caught in the energy explosion, causing chaos and flashing green light.
"What happened?"
Countless people shouted questions, their eyes fixed on the enemy attacking them. Countless Kovard aliens also joined in the bewildered clamor. Hal's face was grim.
"Hal, something big has happened, Mogo, Mogo he..." came the voice of Chief Instructor Kirovog.
"I saw it," Hal said through gritted teeth.
Of all the Green Lanterns, only one, and the most powerful of them all, could do this—
Only Green Lantern Mogo can fight against thousands of other Green Lanterns on his own, and only when some enemies control him can they pose a deadly threat to the Green Lantern Corps!
Hal suddenly stared at General Zod not far away: "When?"
He was asking when he took control of the Green Lantern planet Mogo, and also when General Zod reached an agreement with Sinestro and his group.
"It was the beginning of your helping us release those devices on Mogo, the Green Lantern planet, in order to get all of you out of the Phantom Zone."
"How should I put it?"
General Zod paused.
"What makes you think Sinestro has the ability to open the Phantom Zone?"
He said, "Don't you find it strange? He could open such a huge gap in the Phantom Zone just to let you in? By what right? By the half-baked Kryptonian knowledge he got from that bastard called Mechanical Superman?"
"No. He couldn't have done those things without my help," he said.
"You...you have more options," Hal said. He tried to persuade the other person, "You can do it better..."
"You're right," General Zod nodded.
"But I chose to help Mongo and Sinestro, which is why I fully support them. They both need to make sure you don't interfere with their plans, and I also need to make sure someone can get us out of the Phantom District, where we can only negotiate with Sinestro and the others through the cracks in the Phantom District."
General Zod looked around.
"And it's very simple, isn't it? You protected me and this Green Light planet in the very center, and more than 2000 Green Light police officers built a protective shield for me. You forcefully broke through the law that the Phantom Zone and the material universe can only enter but not leave, and you made a part of the Phantom Zone broken and incomplete."
He said somewhat seriously, "You have no idea what you've done, nor do you understand the far-reaching impact this will have. You just did it for the sake of convenience."
"And now you will pay the price."
Hal, the Green Lantern, saw that a female Kryptonian named Fiora, one of General Zod's henchmen, was already fighting in the distance. Hal knew that this was likely to be another long battle. Even with a force of more than 2000 Green Lanterns, it would be a huge challenge to subdue the most powerful Lantern in history without harming Mogo.
By the time Kilowog and his entire Green Lantern Corps had dealt with the enemy, the matter with Senestor was essentially settled.
If no one can stop Seneca...
"There's no time to stop Mogo. We have to stop Sinestro," Hal said in a deep voice. "And Batman must have realized Sinestro's plot, but he might not be able to stop him on his own."
Hal quickly named several Green Lantern Corps members and then said, "Sinestro wants to keep us here, but we can't let him have his way."
"We need to get to Planet OA."
For some reason, Hal felt inexplicably excited.
Finally, after such a long time...
It's finally Hal's turn to save Batman.
He was convinced that he would be the force that would turn the tide of the battle.
He said, "We have to abandon things here. Kirowog..."
"I will take care of Mogo's problem," said the Green Lantern Corps bishop.
"And we will stop Sinestro!" Hal exclaimed. "We will save Batman!"
